Sri Lanka's economy to grow 4.5 pct in 2025, central bank says

COLOMBO, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- The Sri Lankan economy is expected to grow by around 4.5 percent in 2025, the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) said on Friday.

In its second Monetary Policy Report for 2025, the central bank said economic growth is expected to continue its modest expansionary momentum over the medium term.

However, external demand conditions and evolving global geoeconomic landscape increase the level of uncertainty associated with growth prospects over the near to medium term, CBSL said.

CBSL added that U.S. tariff-related uncertainties can limit the performance of the external sector, market performance, market sentiments and investments deflationary conditions, which prevailed since September 2024, have eased since March 2025.
