Sri Lankan police seize 50,000 kg of raw materials linked to crystal meth production

COLOMBO, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lankan police have uncovered a stockpile of nearly 50,000 kg of raw materials suspected to be used in the production of crystal methamphetamine at Middeniya in southern Sri Lanka, the police said on Friday.

The materials were transported to the location in two containers, a police spokesman said.

The discovery followed the interrogation of recently apprehended leaders of organized crime gangs, he said.

Police operations this year have netted 1,416 kg of crystal methamphetamine, 946 kg of heroin, and 1,282 kg of cannabis, along with other narcotics, said Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasooriya on Wednesday.
