COLOMBO, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Sixteen were injured when a bus carrying school children veered off the road and struck an embankment in Sri Lanka's Southern Province on Wednesday morning, police said.

The injured were admitted to local hospitals. Several of them have been discharged after receiving treatment, according to the police.

Police reported that in 2024, Sri Lanka recorded 2,541 deaths from 2,403 fatal road accidents.
