COLOMBO, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka's economy grew 4.8 percent in the first quarter of 2025, the Department of Census and Statistics (DCS) said on Monday.

The first quarter GDP increased to over 3,477 billion rupees (about 11.6 billion U.S. dollars) from 3,318.7 billion rupees in the first quarter of 2024, the DCS said.

In the first quarter of 2025, agricultural activities declined 0.7 percent. However, industrial and services activities expanded 9.7 percent and 2.8 percent, respectively, according to the DCS.

The department attributed the growth to relatively stable exchange rates and low interest rates.

Sri Lanka's economy has posted a positive growth for seven consecutive quarters.
