Sri Lanka passes new gambling bill to oversee casinos, curb money laundering

COLOMBO, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- The Sri Lankan parliament on Tuesday passed a bill that grants provisions for the establishment of the Gambling Regulatory Authority with amendments.

The Gambling Regulatory Authority has the authority to regulate all forms of gambling, including casinos.

The authority has many powers, including the collection of gambling-related revenue, ensuring transparency and good governance in gambling operations, and preventing illegal gambling activities.

Speaking in parliament, Deputy Minister of Economic Development Anil Jayantha Fernando said that the act also addressed concerns about money laundering.
