COLOMBO, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka will recruit 8,000 teachers in 2023 to enhance the level of education at the provincial level and to fill vacancies in the cadre, Education Minister Susil Premajayantha told local media on Tuesday.
Premajayantha said that 8,000 teachers will retire in 2023 and these vacancies need to be filled.
The minister said that they have already called for applications and teachers will be recruited following an aptitude test.
The new teachers are expected to complete a diploma in teaching methods conducted by the National Institute of Education within three years of recruitment.
The Education Ministry will also take steps to upgrade teacher training colleges to the level of universities, he said.
