COLOMBO, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka will launch a national program in implementing the Paris Agreement on climate change, Presidential Adviser on Climate Change Ruwan Wijewardene said on Thursday.

Local media reported that Wijewardene said after a related meeting that Sri Lanka will seek international assistance in carrying out its national program.

The South Asian country needs to tackle problems stemming from the impact of climate change on sectors including agriculture, irrigation and fisheries, according to him.

Wijewardene said the Sri Lankan government wants to minimize the effect of climate change in the country and prepare to face future related challenges, and called on the government to take into account climate change issues when making development policies.
