COLOMBO, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- Six people, including four school children, were killed and 11 others injured when a ferry they were travelling in capsized in east Sri Lanka on Tuesday morning, police said.
The police said several school children were on board the ferry when it capsized in Kinniya, Trincomalee and navy divers were on ground conducting an immediate search and rescue mission.
Eyewitnesses told Xinhua that a large crowd had gathered in the area and some local volunteers were also assisting the navy in search for the missing people.
Some school children are also among those listed as missing. The 11 injured people have been admitted to nearby state hospitals.
The police said that the ferry capsized due to overloading. The police have cordoned off the area.
