Sri Lanka's COVID-19 cases jump 3,300 mark

COLOMBO, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka's positive COVID-19 patients jumped the 3,300 mark Wednesday after 11 new patients were detected from quarantine centers, health ministry statistics showed here.

According to the latest figures, till Wednesday noon, 3,374 COVID-19 positive cases had been reported.

According to the government information department, those who tested positive included one from Lebanon, one from the United Arab Emirates, seven from Oman, one from Qatar and one from Germany.

They were all sheltered at quarantine centers and did not come in contact with society, the health ministry said.

Out of the total number of confirmed patients since the first patient was detected in March, 3,230 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of active patients down to 144.

Sri Lanka has to date recorded 13 deaths from the virus.

Sri Lankan authorities have made wearing face masks mandatory while strict health guidelines are followed in all schools, offices and public places.

The country's international airports which were shut in March continue to be closed for international visitors.
