Sri Lankan News.Net
Monday 7th September, 2009

In Afghanistan, a man who was found guilty of blasphemy at the beginning of this year has been freed.

24-year-old Perwiz Kambakhsh, a student of journalism, was initially sentenced to death for insulting Islam and the Prophet Muhammad in an article.

On hearing of the death sentence, Western diplomats demanded he be pardoned.

While the death sentence was commuted to 20 years' imprisonment on appeal, Afghan President Harmid Karzai has now granted Mr Kambakhsh a pardon.

Afghan blasphemer pardoned by Karzai

Mr Karzai should have made this decision to free the broad-minded young journalist of our country after the court sentenced him to death. However, Mr. Karzai knows is a shrewd politician. He knows when to join hands with corrupt leaders and when to free innocent prisoners in order to stay in order to change the views of people for his own interest. He is one of those smart students of Habibia High School who knows the A-Y of all games played in Afghanistan except the Z.
